What started out as a diary to record my journey about learning how to speed skate at the age of 41 somehow took on a life of its own. Somewhere between me praying to any holy entity that would listen if they could just keep me upright for an entire class I would stop drinking (I lied) and learning how to do my first crossover thanks to the awesomeness of my classmate who literally supported me for half a class, I started to get emails from other moms. Other moms who also felt like they were drowning.
This is where I start to cry. Because I TOTALLY GET IT. I was drowning too. And then I found speed skating and was given the gift of finding something that lights me up from the inside.
I want you to have that too. Not necessarily speed skating but, you know, something.
Speed skating goes from September until March which means I have all this time from April to August to try other things. And that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to try different activities — not necessarily sporty — and write about them in hopes that maybe, just maybe, something will catch your eye and you’ll go out and try something new too. Because when you find that thing that lights up your life and you start to realize you’re important too, it’s awesome.
