Three Most Asked Questions About My Triathlon Training: What’s Your Training Schedule?

The three questions I get asked the most about my training are:

1) What’s your training schedule like?
2) Has your fitness level improved?
3) Have you lost any weight?

So I thought I’d answer them for you – but in three separate posts since nobody likes to read long blathery things.

Below is a sample of one week of my training. Apparently the sessions are going to get longer as we progress which makes sense but also makes me want to huddle up into a very sore ball and cry so I try not to think about it too much.

In terms of the spinning my trainer Suzanne gives me very specific things to do making sure I get my heart rate into certain zones, working on fast cadence, hill climbing, etc.

Monday:
Boot Camp – 45 minutes
Running – 30 minutes of interval training

Tuesday:
Spinning – 1 hour followed by a 10 minute run

Wednesday:
Boot Camp – 45 minutes
Swimming – 30 minutes

Thursday:
Speed Skating – 1 hour and 10 minutes

Friday:
Spinning – 50 minutes

Saturday:
Off

Sunday:
Swimming – 45 minute swimming class
Running – 45 minutes (easy run)

So yes, some weeks I feel like “what the hell am I doing” and others I’m all “I rock the kazbah” plus everything in between. There are sometimes tears, a lot of curse words, and self high fives because I’m mostly working out by myself so there’s nobody around to fist bump.

I’d like to add that there are some weeks when I miss a workout or I can’t finish a workout, whether it’s because I’m tired, haven’t eaten well, the kids are sick, schedules collide…life has a funny way of getting in the way at times. The hardest part right now is fitting in the time for swimming (aside from my swimming class) because I need to block out at least two hours to get to the pool, get changed, swim, get changed, get home, wash chlorine from hair.

Any question?
