Goals: Improving

Last year was a big year for me. I mean, holy shit, I learned how to swim–without paramedics involved! And part of me is how would I ever even top that and the answer is, I’m not even going to try.

I read this amazing book in less than 24 hours called “The Little Book Of Talent: 52 Tips For Improving Your Skills” and I’d recommend it for anyone trying to learn or improve a skill. From music to sports, it lays out simple things you can do to increase your skill set.

It’s been eye-opening and a book I think everyone should read. It’s also the whole reason I’ve decided that this year my goals are to simply improve. 2013 was about giving me a base, this year is about working on each of the sports I’m doing–speed skating, running, biking, swimming–and improving on each one. Improve my stride, improve my strokes, improve my skating. There are no leaps and bounds this year, simply me improving slowly but surely.

Oh, and I signed up to do an Olympic distance triathlon in July, so there’s that too. And possibly a sprint triathlon in September. I’ve also been tossing around the idea of another half marathon which I swore I’d never do again but the idea is niggling at me so I may have to do it.

I’ll also be doing a spring 10k run (not sure which one so if you’re doing one, let me know and I may just join you). And I’ll be doing the Island Girl Half Marathon relay again in September so I’ll need a partner.

Just saying.

p.s. Yes, I’m going to keep writing but I’m not always going to be putting it out on social media, depending on how I feel. I don’t want to be a part of the ‘me me me’ stuff that’s happening and just want to get back to basics so, you know, sometimes I’ll put it out there, sometimes I won’t–but I’ll always be writing. Feel free to stop by anytime. I enjoy your company.

I’m still injured with my PF (starting to believe my physiotherapist that it IS chronic) and running has had to take a serious back seat, as has anything involving landing on my feet. I’ve registered for the TTF again (sprint, again) but I’m not sure I should register for anything else until I start feeling like I can actually run or walk without pain. I may just re-focus my fitness goals this year to improve my swim and bike and get back to Pilates and yoga to strengthen my core. :-\ Impressed with you!!

It’s so important to make sure you take care of your injuries no matter how frustrating it is. I hope you feel better soon and definitely pilates! It’s so great for your core!

  4. Lindsay says:

I’ve set myself small goals as a starting off point so there is no excuse to not being successful, from there I will add slowly for improvement.

Oh gosh, apparently I’ve taken too many meds. That should say “it looks like so much fun!”

Pretty sure I’m doing the Mississauga 10km again.
I may be game for the Island Girl Relay! That one l
