I mean, I’m not going to be running it all, Bam! You need to train for that shit. It’s 21 kilometres, you can’t do it all willy nilly.
Last week I wrote about my goals for 2014 and one of them was to do the Island Girl Half Marathon Relay again. It’s my favourite race of the year for so many reasons. It’s women only, a gorgeous course, it’s flat and, OMG – getting laid jokes!
This past year I ran it with my boot camp instructor/owner, Johanna. People were all “Are you nuts? Running a 10.5k with your boot camp instructor?” and I was all “Dudes, she’s seen me at my worst. She makes me do burpees.” But she’s super nice and is all smiley when she’s making me want to vomit so I like her. Plus she brought grass skirts to go with our leis so that makes me like her even more.
Anyway, it was a blast. Except for the part where I hadn’t run since my triathlon and decided I could run 10.5k with no running from July 19th to the end of September. That part was a bit hurty and I don’t recommend it at all.
PEEPS! YOU NEED TO TRAIN FOR RACES. THIS IS A LIFE RULE.
Anyhoo…I put it out there that I wanted to do the Island Girl Half Marathon Relay again and one of the speed skating moms in the stands that I sit with every week and, occasionally drink with, Michelle, texted me and said “I’ll do it with you!” so just like that I had a partner. BUT THEN the whole “I think I may have another half marathon in me” started niggling away at me and I knew I needed to do it so I asked Michelle if she was into it and she was all YES! and now we’re both going to do the Island Girl Half Marathon.
Which leads me to ask….who wants to join us? It could be a super fun run, followed by a brunch that may or may not have alcohol involved.
And by ‘may or may not’ I mean, YES IT WILL. Because we will have just run 21k and if that doesn’t justify a drink, I don’t know what does.
Also, Michelle is a running Ninja. So, watch out.
