Super Secret

I’m so excited I could burst.  We’re keeping a super secret from Son No. 1.   He’s been coming along leaps and bounds with speed skating and starting January, he’s going to be moved up to the next level of classes.  The best part?  He has no idea!

He’s been going to two practices a week now for about a month with the second class he attends having older, more experienced speed skaters.  This has been a a driving force in the improvement in his speed skating.  He sees the other skaters and wants to emulate them.  Not to mention they have more difficult drills in that class and the kids work harder.  He’s usually dripping in sweat by the time it’s over.

So tomorrow we bring him to the club where the club President will talk to Son No. 1 about how hard he’s been working and because of all the hard work, there’s been a big improvement in his skating and he’ll be moving up.

Have I mentioned how much I love this club?  It’s run solely by volunteers and as my husband said in an email to the club President, “The sense of family and support you create for the club is a unique trait that is lacking in so many of the profit driven organizations that around today.

I don’t know how far Son No. 1 will go in speed skating but I can tell you this….as a parent I feel so incredibly proud that he’s finally “getting” how hard work pays off.

The club, the coaches and the staff have everything to do with this.

Tomorrow night is going to be awesome.

So awesome! You should be so proud. What a hard worker he is! It’s the best feeling, isn’t it, to see our children happy and succeeding? Sigh. xo

  4. That feeling of pride is the best feeling around! How did it go?

  5. So… how did it go???? I definitely know that feeling. Bursting with pride and love for our little offspring that are accomplishing the difficult (and sometimes the impossible) by leaps and bounds.

Congratulations mama – the moment may be his, but the love, encouragement and support he gets from you gives him everything he needs to try harder and succeed!

I bet he’ll remember tomorrow forever. When he’s rich and famous, he’ll talk about the day he realized that hard work pays off and he knew he could accomplish anything.
