Let’s Carpe The Hell Out Of This Diem

I’m back, baby! (read that in a George Costanza voice) Last night was my first speed skating class of the season and it was, well, AWESOME.

Awesome because we have lots of new people in our class, some who are already great and some who are like me and working on becoming great. Awesome because I got to see the people from my class last year. Awesome because E. taught us how to fall so we don’t break both our legs. Awesome because I could actually do some of the drills. Awesome because I’m still slower than everyone in my group but not as far behind as I used to be. Awesome because I think, maybe, just maybe, I’m even a tiny bit better than where I was at the end of last season.

Just awesome.

I’m going into this season with a new attitude and taking E.’s advice and not focusing on what everyone else is doing and just focusing on myself. There is still so much work to be done. Outer edges, going into my crossover on an edge, balance, stability…I need to remember to think the whole time I am out there, push with the entire blade, bring your foot in closer when recovering, BRING YOUR ASS DOWN, Sharon.

I’m like a bloody ox pulling a cart out on the ice.

But I am going to do this. I’m going to get better because there’s nothing you can’t accomplish when you put your mind to it and work your ass off.

I’m going to seize this season and carpe the hell of it.

    meh. you’re okay.

    Just kidding, obviously.
I’m completely unsurprised that you are better, faster than last year. No one works harder than you, no one wants it more. You SO deserve this. xoxo

Yay you! Hard work totally pays off. Does this mean we get to come watch you race this year??

So there’s been all these change ups in the way meets are organized — I don’t completely understand it or know how/when I will be able to compete. But it’s my hope that, yes, at some point this year I’ll race in a meet.

You don’t have to be first or even second or third to be great. You just have to be you and you do that so well :)

    Go, Sharon!

Here’s a piece advice I give myself when comitting to something; perhaps you will find it useful on the days you don’t feel like going out:

The time for half-assed has passed. IT’S NOW TIME FOR FULL ASS! ;)
