Kind Of A Bummer

Last night was a bit of a bummer. Midway through dryland training I had to stop because my irregular heartbeats decided to kick in.  I’ll get them in two different ways–palpitations and a fluttering. Palpitations aren’t really a big deal but the fluttering is more worrisome because I get dizzy and that’s what happened last night.

Since I started lifting weights again, it’s come back more frequently. Not while I’m lifting but afterwards which is what happened years ago (and yes, I did see a cardiologist and get tested).

So what caused it last night? Who knows, it could be a number of things. On Tuesday I spent 7 1/2 hours at Wonderland on the hottest day of the year and ate crap amusement food (how can they make pizza taste bad?). Yesterday I wasn’t feeling 100% and didn’t eat as much throughout the day as I probably should have. Dinner was protein heavy, carb light. I’m sure all of this combined with the heat had something to do with it.

Not a huge deal but very frustrating.

On a good note, I was better on the one-legged jumping drill than I was last week. Even Hockey Playing Husband was all “you were doing great up until the point you thought you were going to die.”

Don’t think I didn’t notice that he didn’t come over to make sure I was still alive at any point during the rest of the dryland training.

Also, I probably owe M. and E. an apology for crushing the cones they use in the jumping drill. My hopping is better, my aim is not. I’ve started a ‘buy new cones’ fund using the change I get back after buying wine.

You should have about 100 new cones by next week.

p.s. Here’s a helpful exercise tip:  Any drill that has numbers in the name is going to hurt. You’re welcome.

  1. I’m with Maija. But I know it’s the dentist that scares you, not the cardiologist, so I’m going to assume you are staying on top of the heart thing.
Maybe some more wine will calm you. It’s all in the name of new cones, right?

  2. Heart Palpitations – I’d be very scared. Take care of yourself.

Sorry to hear that–heart arrhythmias suck! Are they PVC’s? I’m still getting my presumably-PVC’S in about 40% of my races this summer, but they don’t make me dizzy, just tired and short of breath. Hopefully yours the other night were just a random thing caused by the heat, and will leave as quickly as they came. And good job on the jumping/hopping, even if you did shorten the lifespan of a couple of cones!

  4. I’m not a doctor, but maybe you should see one? Worried about you!
