I got my ASS KICKED last night which, you’d think I’d be used to by now, but ya….totally not.
Our coach had us working on:
1) Outer Edges: To say I sucked is a fair assessment.
2) Crossovers: The bane of my existence but getting better.
3) Skating around the rink 13 1/2 times after she had us do two 500 metres: I almost died.
The outer edges will be problematic for a long time to come, I’ve come to terms with this. And skating around in a squatting position while my leg muscles feel like they are burning off of my legs is something I’ll always have to work on. But after last night it’s clear I need to work on my cardio more. While I can run 5 or 10k no problem, this sprinting stuff is knocking me down for the count. I couldn’t even finish the 13 1/2 laps and may have possibly thrown up one or both of my lungs.
I am so, so happy there’s a doctor in our group.
The truth is even doing 500 m is a challenge for me–by the end of it, my legs are burning and I’m skidding out on my crossovers because my leg muscles are tired and shaky but also because I’M TIRED. So I guess I need to work on challenging myself in the cardio department and start running sprints again instead of just lollygagging along at my usual pace.
That’s it. There’s no lesson or inspiration here today. Just me sucking at cardio. And wind. Sucking a lot of wind.
