A Bump In The Road

I feel like this week has been a total bust training-wise. I managed to do boot camp on Monday and hill training on Wednesday but had a total fail on everything else.

I missed speed skating on Thursday night because the snow storm was coming in and ever since our head-on collision with a drunk driver, I’m reluctant to drive in bad weather. And I didn’t swim on Thursday like I was supposed to because I thought I’d do it Friday–in my head I was all “There’s snow! Less people would be at the pool!”

Only I wasn’t expecting a snow day which meant the kids were home all day and my boot camp was cancelled as well. And Holy Hannah Banana! That was quite the snowfall, wasn’t it?

So I feel like this week was a total bust.

I know everyone has weeks like this so tell me, what do you do to get back on track again when you’ve had a crap week.

I’ll read your comments when I get back from my 50 minutes of biking.

p.s. Shoveling snow three times in one day counts for something, right?
p.p.s.You really use muscles you don’t typically use when you shovel, don’t you.
p.p.p.s. In related news I’m drinking my coffee with a straw this morning.

I hear you! i missed a bunch of workouts this week too – very uncharacteristic for me, but you know – not a bad thing either. When you’re going hard all the time, sometimes a week off is just what the doctor ordered! I’m getting back at it today feeling much refreshed. Here’s to a better week ahead for both of us!

Don’t feel so bad — you’ll get back on track. Let’s put it this way – you’re 10 steps ahead of most people! The past few weeks have been a bust for me too but there is always tomorrow to start once again.

Consider the snow shoveling an upper body and core workout. Forget about the bad week, and pick up where you left off. If you’re already training hard, you can’t try to “make up” for missed days by doing double workouts the next week; that’s just asking for an injury. So, I just consider it an extra “recovery” week, and hope that I’ll feel correspondingly awesome the following week! (If you had a recovery week coming up you could ask your trainer if she wants to swap weeks around, I suppose). And, if you’re better at doing things you don’t like to do (i.e., anything but skating) than I am, you could always do some nice dryland workouts in your basement next time you’re snowed in. :-)

Snow shovelling counts. I fool myself into believing the bad runs (or weeks) are part of my training schedule. This week’s runs were so so bad, like my legs and brain weren’t speaking to my lungs.

Shoveling snow totally counts! Though I’ve never had to use a straw afterward. When I was on the run up to IMC, I didn’t hardly ever miss training sessions. I knew if I tried to put it off for a day, it would all go caddywhompus on me and I’d never get caught up. At least now I don’t feel guilty about not being caught up.
